BCM Institute And ILM Academy Holds Seminar On Business Continuity And Disaster Recovery

Bandar Seri Begawan - A seminar on "Back to Basics: Getting Started with Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Planning and its Best Practice" was held recently at ILM Academy, Knowledge Hub Building, Anggerek Desa, according to a press release from TelBru.

The seminar was conducted by the partnership between BCM Institute and ILM Academy, led by the prolific President of BCM Institute, Dr Goh Moh Heng.

Business Continuity Planning Key for Private Sector in Event of Disaster

The ICT Leadership Management (ILM) Academy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru), recently conducted a seminar on business continuity planning to increase awareness of the crucial nature of these services in Brunei.

BCM Seminar Paving Way For Full Programme

Bandar Seri Begawan - Several participants of a day long course on Business Continuity Management (BCM) learned how to develop an efficient response in the event of a disaster, yesterday, in a workshop led by the President of the BCM Institute in Singapore.

Dr Goh Moh Heng, who is also the Managing Director of GMH Continuity Architects, has helped many organisations in the Asia Pacific and Mideast regions with his ideas on BCM, Disaster Recovery Planning, and Crisis Management.

Yesterday's course participants learned about the fundamental skills and knowledge in BCM, so as to be able to assist the organisational business units and departments in identifying critical processes, and to develop effective and efficient responses to ensure the continuity of these critical processes.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) -- The need to implement Business Continuity Management (BCM) in both the public and private sectors has become pertinent, says Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Fadillah Yusof.The BCM he said, is important to prevent common problems and risks, from interrupting the daily business flow."We are living in an interconnected world where common interests share common problems and risks to the continuity of business. Natural disasters, physical damage and cyber attacks are some of the shared risks to business continuity.

A flood lesson : There is no such thing as a small disaster

The key to success for any business is to plan ahead — be it in the course of work or dealing with disasters.

The recent floods here are a good example, said Dr Thomas Phelan, an author and founding member of the United States Department of Homeland Security. He said: “There is no such thing as a small disaster ... When your feet are deep in the water you know you’re in trouble. Look at how some businesses suffered when floods hit Singapore.” Dr Phelan, who spoke to MediaCorp on the sidelines of the 3P Public Private Partnership seminar jointly organised by the Business Continuity Management Institute and the Singapore Business Federation last Friday.

Companies should always be prepared to handle disruptive events without compromising operations as far as possible, according to Thomas Phelan, one of the founders of United States Department of Homeland Security. Out of the many Incident Command System (ICS) 100 training programmes Phelan has conducted with companies, he named IBM, Boeing, Pearson Technologies and a subsidiary supermarket chain owned by Walmart, Asda, as examples of those with good Business Continuity-Disaster Recovery (BCDR) practices.

In the video, Phelan talks about the importance of BCDR and some ways to improve BCDR practices in organisations.
