Is Your Organisation Ready For The Next Pandemic?

SINGAPORE, 11 Aug 2010 - Professor Peter Collignon, Canberra Hospital's head of infectious diseases department has stated that the superbug NDM-1 has infected three Australians and a patient who had plastic surgery in Mumbai. Also known as the New Delhi metallo-lactamase-1 (NDM-1), it was first identified in 2009 in a Swedish patient admitted to hospital in Mumbai. Could we be seeing a new superbug pandemic in the offing and if so, is your organisation ready for a superbug pandemic or even a pandemic flu plan for that matter?

In the wake of the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, the goverment rolled out a Flu Pandemic Business Continuity Guide to galvanise SMEs to cope with the impact and build up its business continuity planning to ensure businesses are viable in the midst of a pandemic. This guide drew references from the SS 540:2008 standard which was published in 2008 after the publication of TR19:2005 where Dr Goh Moh Heng serves as the standard's Technical Reference. Many SMEs pricked their ears and turned to GMH Consulting for advice in drawing up their Pandemic Flu Plan. While many SMEs - till today, still turn to BCM Institute to ensure their staff are pandemic-prepared, the BCMPedia has received  page loads and regular visits from visitors beyond our shores. A freely accessible Business Continuity-Disaster Recovery wikipedia, you can find all the critical definitions that make up a proper Pandemic Flu Plan, from alert systems to zoonoses.

In a phone interview, Ms Jane Tang, Regional HR Manager for a leading healthcare group in Asia, recalls the Pandemic Influenza Business Continuity Planning training she had with BCM Institute. "As one of the leading banks in Asia, I know how critical it is to be prepared—and practice—for disasters. BCM Institute's customised training, complete with “hands-on advice” for every person on staff, right up for our top management, demonstrates that BCM Institute does not just give lip-service to valuing staff safety, it practices what it preaches. In fact, if you want to be sure your organisation can survive pandemics, BCM Institute would be your first stop".

Author of various books, including "Developing Your Pandemic Influenza Business Continuity Plan", Dr Goh Moh Heng, President of BCM Institute also added that the Institute provides ongoing advice even after the training. "The worst thing that could happen is to let your Pandemic Influenza Business Continuity Plan plod along unsupported. We have a strong team of consultants, an online BC-DR community and the world's first free BC-DR glossary and a certification career roadmap. These platforms are aimed at keeping your plan sustainable and current."
