Instructor Close-Up: Dr Lim Yew Ban, Chief Learning Officer of BCM Institute

DSC_0629 SINGAPORE, 4 August 2010 - Have you ever wondered about the background of BCM Institute's course instructors and what draws them to volunteer their precious time with the professionals who attend our courses? Well, over the coming months, we will be introducing to our business continuity-disaster recovery (BC-DR) community, our eminent team of course instructors. To kick-off our first Close-Up series, we have Dr Lim Yew Ban who has 10 years of training and lecturing experience up to the doctoral level. Coupled with his extensive experience in designing and developing professional courseware with industry practitioners, his expertise is highly sought-after  in IT-Disaster Recovery circles.

In one of his recent teaching sessions, Dr Lim had students from as far as Vietnam! Curious to understand why our courses lure throngs of professionals from ASEAN? Dr Lim, elucidated that most Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery courses are founded on seasonal factors. BCM Institute's courses however are Asian-centric with emphasis on environmental factors, rather as ...."environmental factors really challenge business continuity capabilities". By tapping on the BCM methodology, Dr Lim shared that he can customise courses to IT-Disaster Recovery.

Dr Lim has also participated as a researcher, workgroup member and editor of the two national standards on BCM, namely, Singapore Standard for business continuity-disaster recovery (BC-DR) service provider spearheaded by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore and the Business Continuity Management for Manufacturing, Innovation and Services spearheaded by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF). Coupled with BCM Institute's established presence in ASEAN as the leading institution in BC-DR thought leadership, Dr Lim added that, "Based on my personal teaching experience with since 2007, many professionals in ASEAN and beyond view our Institute as the knowledge-gathering place to acquire BC-DR knowledge and certification to get ahead of the curve."

And what motivated Dr Lim to take up the role of Chief Learning Officer in BCM Institute? "I've had years of experience in developing and designing courseware for different applications in DR planning and my forte in the IT-development verification made it an easy decision to share my experiences with DR practioners."
