BCM Benchmarking : Bridging Your Business Continuity Programme to International Standards and Best Practices
![]() |
Kuala Lumpur, 15 October 2010 – The emphasis of business continuity management has always been to meet either or both regulatory and compliance requirements. In reality, this responsibility is assign organization-wide but unfortunately, it usually left to the BCM Team and its business unit coordinators. The need to move the priority of BCM to a higher level requires a change in the entire programme management mindset of the professionals as they need to enlist all stakeholders who are affected by the readiness level of the BC plan. These does not only include the auditors, it includes anyone who is involves in risk management, corporate governance and maintaining due diligence within an organization. |
The seminar will be jointly presented by Dr Goh Moh Heng, President of BCM Institute and Jeremy Wong, Senior Vice President of GMH Pte Ltd.
Dr Goh highlighted that in his recent meetings with professionals within the region, “the lack of management support is the most common complaint by BCM professionals.” This does not reflects the lack of professionals of BCM but rather a need for most to re-look at the traditional approach and route that they are using now. In this seminar, Dr Goh will be discussing about the involvement of the many stakeholders who have vested interest but is not involved in the BCM programme. He will also share the need to build competencies not only within but outside of the current BCM establishment. This change must take place before any significant in-road can take place. Dr Goh had spearheaded the additional competency for compliance and governance within the BCM list of professional competency. Over the last six month, Dr Goh led a team within BCM Institute to setup the competency framework, which led to 6 major organizations achieving its BS25999 and SS540 organizational BCM certification.
Jeremy Wong who had recently joined GMH Pte Ltd was the Head of BCM at Normura Bank. His recent involvement with organization certification audits combining with his past BCM experiences will provide the audience with an insight of “how to” and “how not to” manage a BCM programme. Jeremy will share the expectation of executive management level and how a roadmap combining the building of competencies with proper execution of the new BCM roadmap will help organization revitalize its BCM effort within any organization. He will also share some of the key success approach and tools which helps in the managing a complex and continuous improvement needed BCM programme.
